Jesus Gave His Life

God knew that sin would come into the world before He created it. A world full of sin would be of no value to a loving Father, especially when anything sinful would ultimately have to be destroyed. Our Creator loved us, wanted us to have a close relationship with Him as children of God. This would be impossible if we could not become righteous, holy once more. And to make us holy again there had to be a way for our sins, our transgressions to be forgiven. The Son offered to become man, become Jesus, to die for our sins, to make believers holy children of God once more, before mankind was even created, before they had sinned.

*in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, Tit 1:2 NKJV+

*For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. 1Pe 1:20-21 NASB+

Jesus was always in charge of His own destiny, as the Messiah who came to set us free from our sins. Man never had control over Jesus, Christ’s crucifixion did not just happen. Jesus was always in control as He carried out the plan of salvation made before the world was created. Jesus carried out the prophecies, the Scriptures to the smallest detail. Never breaking God’s law, but fulfilling each and every part, being a righteous man who would die for the unrighteous believers, for me, for you. Jesus willingly died as atonement for our sins.

*The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father." Jn 10:17-18 NIV+

*After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. Jn 17:1-5 NIV+

Sin caused the death of Jesus pure and simple, sin and sin alone. Jesus freely allowed Himself to be tortured, killed and rejected by God, to atone for any and all sins of believers, from the beginning of the world to the end of the world. It did not happen because the Roman Empire had the power to do it, nor because the Chief Priests and leaders of the Jewish Church were trying to save their church and culture, nor because Judas betrayed Jesus. All who had a part in Christ’s death were merely instruments controlled by sin and easily used in God’s great master plan. From the power driven sinful minds of the Romans who did not believe in God, to the hypocritical driven egos of the Jewish leadership who refused to accept Christ, to the greed filled desires of Judas.

*This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 1Ti 1:15 KJV

*But Jesus said to him, "Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?" Matt 26:52-54 NKJV+

I am the drops of blood that Jesus shed

Contemplating the great task of salvation ahead

I am the ropes that bound Him tight

When He was arrested in the garden late at night

I am the lies that were twisted and spun

That were bitterly hurled at God’s own Son

I am the fist that hit Jesus in the face

And the saliva that was spit on the King of Grace

I am the crown of thorns that was shoved on Christ’s head

The insults of Roman soldiers while He quietly bled

I am the leather and metal biting deep within

Tearing away pieces of my Master’s flesh and skin

I am the path Jesus stumbled up, His death to complete

The pain of nails being driven through His wrists and feet

I am the wood that held my Savior’s body high

Slowly, painfully, suffocating Him till He would die

I am the agony of a mother looking at a dying son

The shock of a friend watching a crucifixion being done

I am the sins of the world Jesus bore as He died

As Hades’ fire awaited the soul of the Messiah who was crucified

To know why Jesus was brutally crucified, had to endure Hades, one merely has to look in the mirror. My sins, your sins, all sins of the human race from the beginning to the end of the world required the Holy One to be an atoning sacrifice. I am as guilty as anyone of inflicting the humiliation, the agony, the torture, the suffering my Savior went through. The most incomprehensible part of God’s plan of salvation is the tremendous love my Lord has for me. That God would become man, be tortured, die, and suffer in Hades to save someone as worthless as I am.

The Father accepted His Son’s suffering as a sacrifice for our sin

Allowing all believers to become spiritually holy once again

Jesus’ soul ascended to Heaven, a spiritual train He did lead

Of believers who had died and were waiting for Christ’s atoning deed

Three days later on earth Jesus would physically arise

Showing the world He had opened the gates to Paradise

Assuring all who would their Savior love

Eternal life with Him in Heaven above

We should all thank Jesus for taking our place

Because He loved us He willingly died to grant us grace

We should tell all the good news, being proud to proclaim

Jesus has saved me, He did not die in vain

What a great Savior we have. We should pass the great love He has given us on to others. Thank you Jesus for saving us, for opening Heaven’s gates wide for all believers to walk through.
