How We Become Children of God, Heirs of Heaven
We must give up our human will and accept the Spirit into our hearts
*The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,
and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ,
if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
Ro 8:16-17 NASB+
Our Heavenly Father wants all of us to be His holy children, brothers and sisters to Jesus, heirs of His Heavenly Kingdom.
*even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, Eph 1:4-5 ESV+
*Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. Heb 2:11 NIV+
*And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. Gal 4:6-7 ESV+
Whether we become children of God, or of satan and this world depends on:
Who controls our human physical mind
We were all created with an eternal spiritual being, our soul and spirit (heart), which lives within our mortal physical being, our body (strength) and mind. We have two distinct beings, a spiritual being and a physical being.
*And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ Mk 12:30 ESV+
*Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Mk 14:38 ESV+
battle for our salvation is over who controls our everlasting spiritual being,
our soul and spirit. For until Jesus returns to gather us home to Heaven, our
physical being, our body and mind cannot come into the
*Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the
*And be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matt 10:28 ASV
Our physical minds, when they become mature enough, not only have control over our physical being, but our spiritual being, our spirit and soul as well. Our physical mind is conceived in sin, is hostile to our God, and cannot submit to Him.
*Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. Ps 51:5 NKJV+
*the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Ro 8:7 NIV+
Our own physical human minds cannot understand our God, cannot say Jesus is Lord without the help of the Holy Spirit.
*The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1Cor 2:14 NIV+
*Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. 1Co 12:3 NKJV+
We are only holy children of God when the Spirit lives in our hearts
Our God is Holy, so we must become spiritually holy to have the Spirit come into our hearts, live in our hearts.
*because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." 1Pe 1:16 NKJV+
*But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. Ro 8:10 NIV+
The means by which our sins are forgiven, we are made holy, is by the sacrificial death of Jesus upon the cross. Our Savior willingly suffered, and then gave His life as atonement for all of our sins. This one time sacrifice forgives all peoples’ sins forever, no other means will ever be needed.
*And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— Col 1:21-22 NKJV+
*And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Heb 10:10 NIV+
When we surrender our will to our Heavenly Father, He forgives our sins through Christ’s atoning death on the cross for them. Our minds are reconciled to our God, so we can accept the Holy Spirit into our hearts, know who our God is. Baptisms of The Spirit
*not by works done in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, Tit 3:5 ASV
*And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. 1Co 6:11 NKJV+
We will receive the Spirit in many different ways, at many different times in our lives. Some will receive the Spirit with much emotion, some quietly, some without even knowing it.
*God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will. Heb 2:4 NASB+
*For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 1Co 1:22 KJV
Though all who receive the Spirit will have our spiritually and physical lives change. As we enjoy and produce the fruit of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, longsufferng, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, and self control. And we will continually receive spiritual blessings from the Spirit all of our lives.
*But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control; against such there is no law. Gal 5:22-23 ASV
*But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 1Co 12:11 NKJV+
We immediately become children of God when the Spirit comes into our hearts, for He enables our minds to follow our God.
*For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
*However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. Ro 8:9 NASB+
The instant we accept the spirit into our hearts we spiritually come into Heaven, the Kingdom of our God.
*nor will they say, 'See here!' or 'See
there!' For indeed, the
We remain children of God when the Spirit dwells within us
There are two spiritual laws which we must obey to remain holy children of God. We are to love our God above all else, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. If we follow these two laws we have fulfilled all of our God’s other commands.
*And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." Mk 12:29-31 NKJV+
*"On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets." Matt 22:40 NASB+
The Spirit gives the love and faith we need to remain children of God.
*Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Ro 5:5 NKJV+
*For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. Gal 5:6 NASB+
*And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. 1Co 13:13 NKJV+
The love the Spirit gives allows us to obey our Savior, and teaches us the truth in the Word of God. When our mind is guided by the Spirit we will have peace, and eternal life.
*"If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. Jn 14:15-17 NIV+
*For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, Ro 8:6 NASB+
Yet we will always sin, for though our spiritual being can become holy, our physical being will always be sinful. There will always be a battle within our minds, to follow our flesh and sin, or to follow the Spirit and be holy. And our sins have to be forgiven.
*For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. Gal 5:16-18 NASB+
*For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. Ro 7:22-23 NIV+
The way our sins are forgiven is by a faith which enables us to love our God above all things. The means by which our sins are forgiven is Christ’s grace, His atoning death on the cross. They are a free gift from our God, there is nothing we can do, there is nothing else which is needed to forgive our sins. How Our Sins Are Forgiven
*For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Eph 2:8-9 ESV+
*If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 1Co 13:2 NIV
Our sins are forgiven by the intent in our hearts. Our Father searches and tests the hearts, to determine whether we love more our God than the desires of our flesh, and made a mistake, sinned, yet still are His children. Or whether we really just love the desires of our flesh more than our God, and are children of satan.
*but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts. 1Thess 2:4 ESV+
*For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. Ro 7:18 ESV+
The Spirit sanctifies us, sanctification means to make us holy, set us apart to be children of God. He does this by continually forgiving all of the sins of those who love our God above all things, before they are counted against us. So we are always spiritually holy, so the Spirit can remain in our hearts, so we are always children of God. Forgiving them by our Savior’s sacrificial offering on the cross, making all who are being sanctified, spiritually perfect.
*and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Ro 8:27 NASB+
*But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 2Thess 2:13 NIV+
*For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. Heb 10:14 NKJV+
We Will Be Taken Into Heaven By Jesus
The instant we give up our will, and accept the Spirit into our hearts, we become holy children of God, and are heirs of Heaven.
*For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” Ro 8:13-15 ESV+
*The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,7 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. Ro 8:16-17 ESV+
We are one with Jesus, and because we love Jesus, He and His Father will live in our hearts.
*Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. Jn 14:23 NASB+
*"In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. Jn 14:20
While living on this earth we are spiritually one with Jesus. We know spiritually we go wherever Jesus goes, though our human mind is not capable of being consciously aware of where He takes us. Yet we know, can mentally picture, and meditate about, the great honor we have in spiritually being in Heaven with Jesus, as He sits at the right hand of our Heavenly Father. And we are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the Heavenly places. What praise and thanksgiving we should give to our great God!!
*But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 1Co 6:17 ESV+
*and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, Eph 2:6 ESV
*Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, Eph 1:3 ESV+
moment our physical body dies, our spiritual being merely moves into a much
more glorious home. We come into Heaven where we have spiritually been taken by
Jesus while we lived here on earth. And will live in
*For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. 2Co 5:2-3 ESV
*Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it. Eccl 12:7 NKJV+
When Christ returns, He will bring down all the saints (Children of God, spiritually living in Heaven) and gather up all God’s children still living on this earth into the clouds. The Gathering
*Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, 2Thess 2:1 NIV+
*For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 1Thess 4:16-17 NKJV+
Then our Savior will raise up from the dead, all the physical bodies of those who have died in Christ. Giving them and all believers who are still living on earth, still have perishable bodies, perfect immortal bodies like His. And then in our glorified bodies take us home to live with Him forever.
*And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. Ro 8:11 NIV+
*Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 1Co 15:51-53 ESV+
*For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. Phil 3:20-21 NKJV+
Children of God have no sins to be judged on, no matter when we physically die, or if we are still alive when Jesus returns. Our Father, Jesus, and the Spirit work together to continually sanctify us, forgive our sins, by our faith, by our love for them. We are holy children of God, awaiting our inheritance in Heaven.
*"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. Jn 5:24 NASB+
*"And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. Ac 15:8-9 NASB+
*to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.' Ac 26:18 NKJV+
For once our Father has forgiven our sins, He remembers them no more.
*For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” Heb 8:12 ESV+
*"I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins. Isa 43:25 NKLV+
Only our works will be judged when we come into Heaven. And we will be rewarded with blessings depending on their worthiness, how they pass the test of fire. We will receive many blessings if we have stored up works which are worthy of our God, treasures which the fire cannot not destroy. We will receive no blessings for works which are unworthy, and burn up. Though we will all be given our great inheritance of eternal life in Heaven.
*For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. 1Co 3:11-15 NIV
*"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt 6:20-21 NASB
We are either Holy Children of our Father, or children of satan.
There is no middle ground!!!
It is easy for us to say there is a God, make Him fit into our live styles, and believe we are living good enough lives to be saved. Yet there is nothing we can ever do which will please our God, unless we have faith in Him, and love Him above all things.
*and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Ro 8:8 NASB+
*But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Heb 11:6 NKJV+
*If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. 1Co 13:3 ESV+
Only our God knows who His children are, for He alone knows the intent in our hearts. Many who think they are going to Heaven, will not be there, and many we think are lost, will be our brothers and sisters in Heaven.
*“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Matt 7:21 ESV+
*Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' Matt 7:22-23 NKJV+
We must realize there is nothing we can do to come to our God, yet all things are possible through our great God. And our Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who humbly ask Him.
*When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matt 19:25-26 ESV+
*If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" Lk 11:13 NKJV+
