Our Soul and Spirit; Our Body and Mind

We cannot understand the Word of God

Until we understand our spiritual being; our soul, spirit, and heart

And our physical being; our body, mind, and conscience

Our spiritual being: is our soul; where our spirit lives processing the thoughts of our spiritual being

Our physical being: is our body; where our mind lives processing the thoughts of our physical being

Our spiritual being, our soul, and spirit; are invisible; live within our physical body

Our heart: part of our spirit, makes our spiritual moral decisions; Father, Jesus, Spirit, live in believers’ hearts

Our conscience: part of our mind, makes our human moral decisions; guided by the Spirit if He lives in our heart

1. We have a soul and spirit; a body and mind

Jesus tells us we have a spiritual heart and soul; which are part of our spiritual being; which are never seen. And a separate distinct physical mind and strength (body) which makes up our visible physical being.  Same in Lk 10:27; Matt 22:37 heart, soul, and mind.

*And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ Mk 12:30 ESV+

Paul tells us we have a spirit, soul, and body (same as strength in verses above).

*Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1Thes 5:23 NKJV+

From verses above, using the process of elimination: we have a soul-spirit-heart; a body-mind-(conscience see 1a.); and each is a separate enity.

Soul and body are listed together; making them separate entities, which make up our total being

Body and strength are never listed together as separate entities; are part of our intricate physical being

Soul; in the Old Testament often refers to the human body, but our God has always used soul to describe His spiritual being. In the New Testament Jesus clearly separates our body and soul; describes our soul as part of our eternal spiritual being which can go to Heaven or Hades then Hell. Notice the soul cannot be killed because it is part of our eternal spiritual being (soul/spirit); but our body can be killed, as it is part of our mortal physical being (body/mind).

*'I then will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and heap your remains on the remains of your idols, for My soul shall abhor you. Lev 26:30 NASB+

*And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matt 10:28 NKJV+ See White Throne Judgment 94

1a. Our heart is part of our spirit; our conscience is part of our mind

Our heart is part of our spirit which contains the moral convictions and emotions of our spirit.  Paul confirms that our spirit and heart are interrelated; that the heart is part of the spirit. For when Christ dwells in our hearts, we are united together as one spirit with our Lord.

*that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, Eph 3:17 NKJV+

*But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 1Co 6:17 NKJV+

Our heart is the control center of our spiritual being, where all our spiritual decisions are made. And when we accept our God, the Holy Spirit comes into our hearts and dwells there; sanctifying and keeping us children of God.

*You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. Ro 8:9 NIV+

*that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Ro 15:16 NKJV+

Our conscience is part of our mind; which contains the moral convictions and emotions of our physical mind. When our minds mature, our conscience is the part of our physical mind which controls our physical mind’s moral thoughts. Our conscience determines whether our mind can surrender our will to our Lord, so He can forgive our sins and put the Spirit into our hearts. Or whether our conscience allows our mind to follow the evil wisdom of this world; into eternal death in Hell.

*To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. Titus 1:15-16 NIV+

*For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Ro 8:6 ESV+

*how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Heb 9:14 NKJV+

2. Our spiritual being is invisible on earth; what soul, spirit, refer to

We must first understand what soul and spirit mean; depending on the context they are used:

Soul can refer to our soul as a separate unit, a separate attribute we have

Soul can refer to our spiritual being; our soul and spirit as an intricate unit of 2 attributes joined together

Spirit can refer to our spirit as a separate unit, a separate attribute we have

Spirit can refer to our spiritual being; our soul and spirit as an intricate unit of 2 attributes joined together

Jesus tells us that believers’ souls are in Heaven; while Hebrews tells us believers’ spirits are in Heaven. Each of them correctly infers that believers’ whole spiritual being, both their soul and spirit, are united together as one spiritual being in Heaven. No one can see our spiritual being, our soul and spirit (and heart within it); except our God, and those He gives visions to. Until our physical body and mind die, and our spiritual being is taken to Heaven. Where our spiritual being is seen and known by the spiritual beings of all believers who have preceded us there.

*and I saw the souls of them that had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the word of God, Ptn Rev 20:4 ASV

*But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, Heb 12:22-23 NKJV+

*now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1Co 13:12 ESV+

2a. Our soul is our outer spiritual body, in which our spirit lives

Our soul is where our spirit lives, they are tightly joined together like a joint (bone) and the marrow they hold. The soul is like the bone and our spirit is the marrow; as they are joined together as an intricate unit. Yet the Word of God (whether written Word of God; or Jesus) can divide our soul and spirit; discern the intents hidden away deep within our spirit; our spiritual thoughts which are in our heart.

*For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb 4:12 ASV

Our soul will resemble our physical being; but will be spiritual, without flesh. As the disciples recognized Moses (died now a spiritual being with a soul and spirit) when they were talking with Jesus. Elijah never died, may come back as a witness/prophet in Rev 11:3;

*And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. Mk 9:4 NKJV+

We know our soul must look like our physical body, for they can show special marks which happened to one’s physical body before they died. For John saw believers’ souls in Heaven who were martyred for our Lord, who had scars which showed they had been beheaded; yet he saw no marks of the beast on their hands or foreheads. For John to be able to see this, their soul had to look like their physical body; yet would be spiritual, without any flesh or blood.

*I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. Rev 20:4 NIV+

*I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 1Co 15:50 ESV+

2b. Our spirit understands, expresses our spiritual thoughts

Our spirit is the thought process of our spiritual being (our spiritual mind, will, and heart). Our spirit can on its own pray, talk, and sing to our God, without using our physical mind.

*What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also. 1Co 14:15 NASB+

*And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the LordAnd my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. LK 1:46-48 NKJV+

A believer can pray and sing with their spirit when talking in tongues, a gift given to some. Yet we can also communicate with our God through our spirit in many different ways including; meditating with our God, processing deep spiritual truths which cannot be understood by our minds; to express joy to our God which we are unable to do through our mind. When our minds shut down for any reason; our spirit can seek help from our God without using our mind, and through our spirit our God can speak back to us, without any physical thoughts or words needed.

*We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 1Co 2:12-13 NIV+

2c. Our heart is part of spirit; where our God spiritually lives

Our spirit, our innermost being contains our spiritual heart, which makes our spiritual moral decisions, shows our intentions and emotion; our love and our faith for our God, our love for all other people. The Father has given us the Holy Spirit in our hearts to guarantee we are His children; to spiritually strengthen us with faith in Him so that Jesus may also dwell in our hearts. And when we love Jesus, our Father will love us and make His home in our heart also.

*Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is Godwho also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. 2Co 1:21-22 NKJV+

*that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, Eph 3:16-17 ESV+

*Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. Jn 14:23 NKJV+

Because Jesus lives in our hearts, we have a peace which is beyond human comprehension. Even when we have trials and troubles, Jesus pushes all fear and worries out of our hearts, for we know He will be with us always and forever. This makes us want to sing praises to God our Father with our hearts; while giving thanks to Him for everything He has given us; in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

*addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Eph 5:19-20 ESV+

*Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Jn 14:27 NKJV+

3. Our physical mind and body

Our body is reproduced immature, grows and matures to become the skin, bones, and muscles which make up our outside body cavity (which oil can be poured over); which is a physical container which protects our physical organs; including our physical mind. Our physical mind is also reproduced immature yet it grows and matures in managing our body’s functions. Likewise our physical mind’s thought process is reproduced immature, yet as our mind matures it will make all of our human moral decisions; either pure, trusting our God or defiled, rejecting our God.

*"For when she poured this perfume on My body, she did it to prepare Me for burial. Matt 26:12 NASB+

*To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. Titus 1:15 NASB+

The body can also refer to both our body and mind as an intricate unit, depending on the context. For when we refer to the body having lusts which only the mind can have; it is referring to our physical being, both our bodies and minds. And when flesh is referred to it can be the muscle and bone of our body; or our complete physical being, our body and mind, depending on the context. For when we refer to flesh being gratified which only our mind can do; we are referring to our physical being, both our body and mind.

*Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Ro 6:12 NKJV+

*But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. Ro 13:14 ESV+

3a. The Temple symbolizes our spiritual/physical relationship with our God

Our Father used His Tabernacle and then the Temple in Jerusalem, to foreshadow the spiritual/physical relationship we would have with Him in the New Covenant of Christ’s atoning grace. Under Old Covenant ceremonially laws, the Temple was divided into 2 rooms by a curtain (veil). It was divided into the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies (the Most Holy Place). Priests entered regularly into the Holy Place to offer up prayers to God at the altar of incense, the incense showing their prayers going up to God; prayers of repentance, praise, thanksgiving, and for their needs.

Yet no person could come into the Holy of Holies (the holy place inside the curtain or veil), to be in the presence of our God; except the High Priest. And he could only be made holy enough through animal sacrifices, to come into the Holy of Holies once a year, on the Day of Atonement. On the day our Father would annually forgive the sins of believers for a year.

*but into the second, only the high priest enters once a year, not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the sins of the people committed in ignorance. Heb 9:7-8 NASB+

*And you shall not do any work on that very day, for it is a Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the Lord your God. Lev 23:28 ESV+

When Jesus died upon the cross to atone for all of our sins; the curtain in the Temple which kept believers from the presence of our God, was torn in half. Christ’s atoning death on the cross provided the means for all of our sins to be forgiven by our Father, and to be remembered no more. Believers’ spiritual beings can be now sanctified, made perfectly holy, so the Spirit could dwell within them.

*And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. Matt 27:50-51 NIV+

*because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. Heb 10:14

We are the Temple of God

* The Outer Wall: Our Physical Body

Our body is flesh and blood; can never become holy, can never come into Heaven, the Kingdom of God

*Holy of Holies: Our Spiritual Being

When our invisible spiritual being is Holy, God lives in them; we are His Temple.

Our soul is the outward covering of our spiritual being; where our spirit lives.

<- Like walls of Holy of Holies ->

Our spirit is made holy when we submit our mind’s will to God; so the Spirit can live here, sanctifying and keeping our spiritual being holy.

*Mercy Seat: Our Heart

Our heart is where our Father and Jesus live; we are one spirit with Jesus.

<- Curtain/Veil            *The Holy Place: Our Physical Mind

Our physical mind is also flesh and blood like our body; can never become perfectly holy, God can never spiritually live within our mind.

Our mature physical mind rules over our spiritual being; we must have our original sin forgiven, before our mind can submit to our God. Otherwise our spiritual being will be evil, unholy; will be controlled by the evil worldly lusts of our physical mind.

If our mind submits to God; He forgives our original sin which makes our spiritual being holy. So the Holy Spirit can live in our hearts; and when the Spirit lives in our hearts He guides our minds to follow our God.

*Altar Of Incense: Our Conscience

Our conscience is where we make the decision to submit to our God or reject Him; become children of God or children of satan.

Our physical bodies become the outside walls of our physical Temple of our God, when the Holy Spirit dwells in our hearts. Our spiritual being, our soul, and spirit lives within our physical body; for the Holy Spirit lives within our hearts, which is part of our spirit.

*Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 1Co 3:16 ESV+

Within the temple walls of our body is our physical mind, symbolized by the Holy Place. In this room the priests carried out their ministries; in our mind we process our thoughts, whether to surrender to our God, or reject Him.

*When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly into the outer room to carry on their ministry. Heb 9:6 NIV+

Our conscience is in our mind, is symbolized by the altar of incense which was in the Holy Place; the room where the priest came to burn incense to help bring the prayers of the believers before God. Our conscience, when we surrender our will to our Father, allows our mind to offer up prayers before our Father’s Throne; otherwise we can never follow our God.

*according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense. And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering. And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense. Lk 1:9-11 NASB+

*Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. Rev 8:3 NKJV+

The walls and curtain of the Holy of Holies, the inner most room represented our soul.

The inner-most room itself, the Holy of holies, was the only room which could be made holy enough for our God to enter into to forgive the sins of Israel. This room represents our spirit, the only place Christ’s blood can make holy enough for our God to spiritually come into.

*"You shall hang up the veil under the clasps, and shall bring in the ark of the testimony there within the veil; and the veil shall serve for you as a partition between the holy place and the holy of holies. Ex 26:33 NASB

Inside the Holy of Holies was the mercy seat; where our Father gave His love and mercy to Israel and forgave their sins, making them holy for one more year. The mercy seat represents our hearts, where our Father can see our inner most thoughts, intentions, and emotions; do we love our God above all things; our neighbors as ourselves. And when we love Him above all things, He forgives our sins and then our Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit come to live within our heart.

*and the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat that is on the ark, so that he may not die. For I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat. Lev 16:1-2 ESV+

*Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Jn 14:23 NIV+

The Temple shows our invisible spiritual being; our soul; which our spirit lives within, and our heart is part of; lives within our physical body.

4. Parents reproduce our visible physical being; Holy Spirit creates our invisible spiritual being

Once again let us listen to Jesus. He clearly tells us that which is born of the flesh is flesh; our visible physical being, our body and mind. And that which is born of the Holy Spirit is spirit; our invisible spiritual being, our soul and spirit. And it is clear that our spiritual being does not have flesh and bones as our physical beings have. Our minds are also physical, even their thought process can be seen.

*"That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Jn 3:6 NASB+

*"See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have."  Lk 24:39 NASB+

4a. Our body and mind is reproduced by man; sinful, mortal, too immature to know our God.

Our Father designed us; yet Jesus was the Word, the one who completed His Father’s words, made them happen. Jesus took dust from the earth, spit on it so He could make man’s physical body and mind; and a new and different creature designed by God was created. The man (Adam) was created holy, in the likeness of God.

*In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. Jn 1:1-3 NKJV

*so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isa 55:11 NIV+

Likeness refers to righteousness and holiness of God

*and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Eph 4:24 ESV+

After Adam sinned by disobeying God, he was cast out of the Garden of Eden. Adam then reproduced a son in his own physical image, in the image of his physical body and mind. Adam also reproduced his son in his own likeness, sinful; Adam’s son inherited Adam’s original sin of disobeying Him when he was conceived by his father and his mother Eve.

*then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. Gen 2:7 ESV+

*When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. Gen 5:3 ESV+

*Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. Ps 51:5 NKJV

Likeness refers to Adam’s sin

*Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. Ro 5:14 NASB+

The only unique and different image Adam had was his mortal physical being; his body and mind. Our Father always refers to our eternal spiritual being as being created in His image. A murderer disrespects God by murdering any person; for we all were made in His image; created by the Spirit with an eternal soul and spirit. And God requires the murderer to be killed. See 4b.

*"Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man. Gen 6:9 NASB+

Adam’s original sin of disobeying God is carried through the seed of all men; to all the children they conceive. We know we all inherit Adam’s original sin of rebelling against God; for we all receive Adam’s curse for committing this sin; we will all die (except believers still physically alive when Jesus returns).

*By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Gen 3:19 ESV+

*Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned--  Ro 5:12 NKJ

Adam’s original sin of rebelling against God was committed by his physical mind when he did not want to obey God; and this sin to reject our God’s commands, is inherited in our physical minds when we are conceived. Since our sinful physical mind is reproduced from the seed of Adam and from Eve, it is reproduced immature; our mind must grow and become mature before they can process our human thoughts, our mind’s ability to rebel against our God. To remain or become children of God; we must have our inherited sin, our other sins forgiven before our mind becomes mature enough to reject our God.

*the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. Ro 8:7-8 NIV+

*"Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all."  Lk 18:17 NASB+

After our minds mature; we must become like little children again to surrender the will of our mind to our Father. Our mind must become like our mind was when we were a child; and willing to accept our God. And our Father will forgive our sins, and put the Holy Spirit into our hearts so we can become His children.

*I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. Eze 36:25 ESV+

*And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. Eze 36:27 ESV+

4b. Holy Spirit creates our soul + spirit in image of God, His angelic host; holy, eternal, mature

Our Heavenly Father designed man as a unique and different creation; first giving man a physical body and mind. Then He said to all the angelic beings around His heavenly throne, “Let us make man in our image.” This was referring to the spiritual attributes of God; which were also shared by the angelic host in Heaven. God was talking to His heavenly angelic host like He did in; Gen 3:22; 1Ki 22:19-22

*And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Gen 1:26 KJV

This is before the Son of God changed our God’s spiritual essence by becoming a physical man, when the Son became Jesus. The Son retained His spiritual being which was God, which has always been, will always be; yet added the body and mind, along with the soul and spirit of a man when he became Jesus. The spiritual Son of God became the Son of man also.

Our Father is a spiritual being; who is so expansive He fills up the universe; yet He is small enough to live within our hearts.

*Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?" says the Lord; "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" says the Lord. Jer 23:24 NKJV+

*Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. Jn 14:23-24 NKJV+

Our Father has a soul and spirit.

*"Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, And He will declare justice to the Gentiles. Matt 12:18 NKJV+

*"God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." Jn 4:24 NASB+

Our Father’s spirit has a spiritual mind, will and heart.

*Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” Ro 11:33-34 ESV+

*"After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will. Ac 13:22 NASB+

Man’s spiritual being was created with the structural image of God; man cannot even be compared to God’s majesty, power, or knowledge.  Man was also created in the image of the angelic beings, with a little less power than they have.

*For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. Ps 8:5 NKJV+

Man’s spiritual being was created by the Holy Spirit in the likeness of God, His holy angels; holy.

*And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Gen 1:26 KJV

For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels. Lk 9:26 NKJV+

Likeness refers to righteousness and holiness of God

*and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Eph 2:4 ESV+

The Holy Spirit creates all spiritual beings; created Adam’s spiritual being, his soul and spirit, within his physical being. After Jesus made Adam’s physical being out of the dust, He breathed the Holy Spirit into Adam; and the Spirit created Adam’s soul and spirit, giving Adam’s physical being life. The same way Jesus on Resurrection Day breathed on some of His disciples (Jn 20:22); they were the first to receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and be born again (Jn 3:3).

*"That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Jn 3:6 NASB+

*then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. Gen 2:7 ESV+

*When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth. Ps 104:30 NIV

*It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. Jn 6:63 ESV+

Mortal can only reproduce mortal; and man will always carry Adam’s original sin in his genes. No sinful mortal physical being has the ability to reproduce an invisible eternal spiritual being.

Our spiritual being is created by the Holy Spirit; holy, eternal, and mature enough to accept or reject our God. In the same way all the spiritual beings of the angelic beings are created by the Spirit.

Holy: our spiritual bring can only be created holy, for they are created by the Holy Spirit who is God and holy; and He cannot create anything which is evil.

*For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You. Ps 5:4 NKJV+

Eternal: because our spiritual being is created in the image of the angelic spiritual beings, who do not die. A believer knows our spiritual being is eternal, for they will return to God in Heaven when our physical being dies.

*and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Eccl 12:7 ESV+

Mature enough to accept or reject God: Our spiritual being, like the angelic beings, does not reproduce; but is created by the Spirit with a spiritual free will mature enough to accept our God like His angelic host; or reject Him like satan and his demonic angels.

*At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. Mt 22:30 NIV+

*Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 1Jn 3:8 ESV+

Our spirit from the time they are created in our minuscule physical bodies, which are attached to our mother’s womb; have a mature spiritual will which can accept or reject our God.

*I was cast upon You from birth. From My mother's womb You have been My God. Ps 22:10 NKJV+

*Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and speak lies. Ps 58:3

From the time our spiritual being is created, our spirit knows who God is, can communicate with Him, and are able to praise Him. Can be guided by the Sprit to know what is happening; jump in their mother’s womb with joy for Jesus.

*For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. Lk 1:44 NKJV+

*and said to Him, "Do You hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes. Have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise'?" Matt 21:16 NKJV+

4c. Holy Spirit gives us our physical being life when He creates our spiritual being

When our parents conceive a physical being, and it attaches to our mother’s womb, our Father sends the Spirit to create our holy, mature, and eternal spiritual being. The Spirit creates our soul and spirit, our inmost being, and knits it within our newly conceived physical being.

*For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Ps 139:13-16 NIV+  Inmost being: soul + spirit Ps 103:1

*The burden of the word of the Lord concerning Israel. Thus declares the Lord who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him, Zech 12:1 NASB+

*As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything. Eccl 11:5 ESV+

When the Holy Spirit creates our eternal spiritual being, life is also given to our physical being, as tiny baby in our mother’s womb.

*When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth. Ps 104:30 NIV

*I will not accuse forever, nor will I always be angry, for then the spirit of man would grow faint before me-- the breath of man that I have created. Isa 57:16 NIV+

*This is what God the Lord says-- he who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: Isa 42:5 NIV+

*nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. Ac 17:25 ESV+

5. Our spiritual being can come into the Kingdom of God; our earthly physical being never can

Since the Spirit creates our spiritual being holy, eternal; and mature enough to accept Our God. Our spiritual being can come into the Kingdom of God from the time they were created; if our mature spirit accepts our God. Yet since our physical being is under the curse of Adam’s original sin, they will die, they are mortal, perishable. And nothing which mortal can ever come into Heaven; for theymust die, and there is no death in Heaven.

*I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 1Co 15:50 ESV+

*If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. Ro 8:10 NASB+

Our Father will forgive believers all of our sins, even the original sin we inherited from Adam. But He could not forgive the curse of death which He put upon Adam, which we also inherit; because this was the only way in which He could save us. Because before our physical bodies could be made eternal and holy once more; Jesus would have to come and die upon the cross to atone for our sins. So all who would believe in Him could be have our spiritual beings made holy; and when He returns for us He will give us an holy, eternal, glorified body like He has.

*Then the Lord God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"—Gen 3:22 NKJV+

*who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. Phil 3:21 NKJV+

In the Old Covenant being near or touching a dead body made you unclean; ceremonial laws required them to purify themselves with water and wait 7 days before they would become clean to participate in the Temple worship of God, Nu 19:11-19. This symbolizes Adam’s original sin in the New Covenant; how this sin brought the curse of death, which had to be spiritually washed away by our Father, through Christ’s atoning grace on the cross. So our spiritual being can become holy, and we could become a child of God, and receive a glorified physical body when Jesus returns.

5a. How our spiritual being comes into Heaven; while we still physically live on earth see D. 25a

After Jesus died on the cross to redeem us from our sins, our Father could forgive the sins of all who would surrender their will to Him; and they could receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Jesus first gave the indwelling of the Spirit on Resurrection Sunday, after He physically arose from the dead and was given a glorified body. He appeared to His disciples in the house where they were staying. Jesus breathed on those who were present and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.” Just as He had breathed into Adam when he was created, giving him the Spirit who created his spiritual being. These disciples were the first who physically lived on this earth; to receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit into their hearts; to have their spiritual beings come into the Kingdom of God.  7 Days Salvation Completed

*"As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire Matt 3:11 NASB+

*And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Jn 20:22 NKJV+

When the Holy Spirit comes into our heart, our Heavenly Father and Jesus also come to live there; for we have spiritually come into the Kingdom of God. Where in the New Covenant of Christ’s grace, our physical body is now our God’s Temple; where our Father, His Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit spiritually dwell within our hearts.

*for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Ro 14:17-18 NASB+

*Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 1Co 3:16 NKJV+

Because we are spiritually united with Christ as one spiritual being; He takes our spiritual being up with Him to His Father’s throne. Though we cannot physically see our God or His Heaven; for our physical body and mind have a veil over them. Until our physical body dies and our spiritual being is taken up to Heaven, where we will meet our Savior face to face; and know Him as our Lord, as He fully knows us as His brothers and sisters.

*But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 1Co 6:17 NKJV+

*and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, Eph 2:6 NASB+

*now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1Co 13:12 ESV+

6. How our spiritual being comes into Heaven; when our physical being dies see E. 28a.

   a. Have a believing parent; b. by mercy of God c. our mind is mature enough to accept Jesus; d. Until our mind is strong enough to reject God

Below are a few parameters of how we become children of God, and then how our spiritual being is taken to Heaven when our physical being dies. For our Father has a special plan for each one of us to become His children, and then takes us home to Heaven when we have completed the work He has planned for us to do; no matter how insignificant this world might think it is.

a. Have a believing parent

Paul tells us all babies to young children who have one believing parent; from the time they were given life in the womb by the Holy Spirit, until their minds are strong enough to reject God (6c.); are holy children of God. Their spiritual being is created holy, sanctified and kept holy by the Spirit, and is in God’s Kingdom of Heaven. Their spiritual being will be taken to Heaven if their physical being should die. And we are assured by God’s Word their believing parent will have the joy of meeting their unborn son or daughter for the first time when they come to Heaven also. Remember their spiritual being is mature enough from being created by the Spirit to accept God, to live on their own; as the angels do, yet are a different spiritual being than the angels are 4b.

*Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. Ps 139:16 ESV+

*For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. 1Co 7:14 NKJV

*Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matt 19:14 NIV+

Note: The husband or wife sanctifies their unbelieving spouse only as it concerns their children, their children alone are made holy. A believing husband or wife cannot save their unbelieving spouse holy. For as we continue in context through the following verses, a believing husband or wife does not know if they will save their unbelieving spouse. And if the unbelieving spouse wants to leave, a believing spouse should let them, so they are not pulled away from their Christian beliefs.

*But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you to peace. For how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife? 1Co 7:15-16 ESV

b. By mercy of God

Our Heavenly Father also shows mercy and compassion on those whom He wants to have mercy and compassion on. Our Father knows those who will love Him above all things, even before they are conceived; and makes them His children, even if they do not have a believing parent. From being given life, their spiritual being is sanctified, kept holy by the Spirit, and comes into the Kingdom of God; until as a youth their minds are strong enough to reject our God (6c.). If they should physically die within this time period, their spiritual being will be taken to Heaven; though we on earth may not know who they are.

*And the Lord said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

*All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Ps 139:16 NIV+

*who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: 1Pe 1:2 NIV

We can have hope in our Heavenly Father’s love, mercy, and compassion for those who are now a child of God:

Yet while they were an unbeliever, had a young or unborn child die for any reason

Even aborted an unborn baby or had part in an abortion, but have repented of their sin and have accepted Jesus into their hearts

That these believers will be reunited with their unborn baby to young child in Heaven; for God has forgiven their sins and forgotten their lawless deeds

*If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1Jn 1:9 NASB+

*then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” Heb 10:17 ESV+

Have parents who are not children of God

We must also realize that God’s Word tells us parents’ attitudes, their sins, can carry over to their children; even children from the time they are given life in the womb. And when unborn babies in the womb, until they are young children with minds which are mature enough to accept God; physically die, their eternal spirit being can go to Hell, because their parents have rejected God.

*You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, Ex 20:5 NIV+ Part of 1st commandment

*You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the laps of their children after them. O great and powerful God, whose name is the Lord Almighty, Jer 32:18 NIV+

*Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and speak lies. Ps 58:3 NIV+

This is what makes abortion horrendous; abortion does not only take the physical life of an unborn baby here on earth. Abortion can also take eternal life away from an aborted baby who has unbelieving parents, or parents who do not seek forgiveness after having any part in an abortion and have the hope of God’s mercy (b. above); and the aborted baby’s spiritual being can spend eternity in Hell.

c. Until our mind is mature enough to accept Jesus as young children - all different; rough idea mental capacity 4-14 year old

As a young child mind matures, they are able to process the physical thoughts which make their decisions for them. They become mature enough to understand who Jesus is, and can love Him. Their mind is mature enough to know when they disobey Jesus and sin, and can ask Him to forgive them.

*And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matt 18:2-3 ESV+

They can come to God:

If one already has the indwelling of the Spirit from the time they were given life (a. or b.); as their mind matures as a young child. They can repent of their sins to our Father, and have all their sins forgiven, including their original sin; before their mind becomes strong enough to rule over their spirit (d). The sins of their physical mind and body are continuously sanctified, forgiven by the Spirit as long as He He lives in their hearts. So it is possible for them to spiritually be holy all of their lives, always a child of God; as long as they do not push the Spirit out of their hearts when their minds become stronger than their spirit.

*and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Eph 4:23-24 NKJ+

If they are not a child of God; they can still surrender to God; as their physical mind is still not completely mature and hostile to God because of the original sin of Adam. And have their sins forgiven including their original sin, so the Spirit can come into their hearts, and guide their minds so they can become children of God.

*For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Ro 8:14 NASB+

They can reject God:

Their mind can continue to reject God, or be influenced by others to push the Spirit out of their hearts. And it will continually get harder for them to surrender their physical mind’s will to the Father; as their mind become stronger, and are unable to discern the will of God; because Adam’s original sin is still in their mind.

*Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Ro 12:2 ESV+

d. Until our mind is strong enough to reject God as a youth - all different; rough idea mental capacity 10-20 year old

There comes a time as we grow older, as we mature, that our physical mind becomes stronger than our spirit. And if our physical mind contains the original sin we inherited from Adam, which is hostile to God, our physical minds will not allow us to surrender to our God.

*The Lord smelled the soothing aroma; and the Lord said to Himself, "I will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man's heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done. Gen 8:21 NASB+

*the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. Ro 8:7-8 NIV+

*For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Ro 1:21 ESV+

Without the Spirit guiding our human conscience, which controls the mind’s values; our mind cannot understand what the Spirit is trying to tell us; and our mind and conscience become defiled. Our conscience becomes seared like a hot iron; with evil lies of hypocrisy.

*The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1Co 2:14 NIV+

*To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. Titus 1:15 NASB+

*speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 1Ti 4:2 NKJV+

The only solution for anyone who does not have the Spirit living in their hearts, and their mind is strong enough to rule over their spirit; is to take the pride out of their mind, and become humble once more like a child. So they can open up their hearts once more to our Father and humbly ask Him to help them. The words they say are not as important as the desire in their hearts to submit to their God. So our Father can spiritually wash away all of their sins, including Adam’s original sin; and put the Spirit into their hearts. For no one can say Jesus is their Lord, except through the Holy Spirit. And then they must let the Spirit guide their conscience, so they desire to act honorably in following our Savior. Baptism of the Spirit

*Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Jn 3:5 EASV+

*Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed "; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. 1Co 12:3 NASB+

*Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. Heb 13:18 ESV+

6a. How we come into Heaven; when we love worldly pleasures more than God, when our mind fails us

Those God calls cannot be taken out of His hand, yet many others who have known God, even had the indwelling of the Spirit, can later turn away from our God. Be again entangled in the corruption of this world, and overcome by it.

*If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 2Pe 2:20 NIV+

*For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, Heb 6:4-5 NASB+

Some who have fallen away in such a manner as to have trampled underfoot the Son of God; regarded as unclean His blood by which they were sanctified. Have insulted the Holy Spirit, which is one of the unforgiveable sins; and it was impossible for them to come back to repentance. Others who knew God, would not honor or give thanks to Him; and their worldly minds pushed the Spirit out of their hearts; their hearts were darkened. Yet they will be able to come back to our God, if they can once more surrender their mind’s will to our Father, ask for forgiveness. And have their sins forgiven so the Spirit can come into their hearts again.

*How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? Heb 10:29 NASB+

*it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. Heb 6:6 NASB+

*For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Ro 1:21 ESV+

We will have a constant battle over who controls our mind. Whether we will turn it loose to explore the pleasures, power, riches, wants of this world, which it will be exposed to. Or whether we will let the Spirit guide our minds, through God’s Word; to do the will of our Father.  We are aliens in this world, Heaven is our home, and we must abstain from fleshly lusts which wage a war against our spiritual beings. So the Spirit can live in our hearts, and guide our physical mind to do the will of our Father.

*Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. 1Pe 2:11 NASB+

*among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind  Eph 2:3 ESV+

*For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. Ro 8:5 ESV+

We must continually spend spiritual time with our God, to overcome all of the temptations our physical mind will be exposed to in this world. We must have quality time, without any of the distractions of this world interrupting us, to pray, praise, thank, and just talk with our Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. To quietly sing or listen to songs about Him, to let the Spirit show us the truths of His Word.

*For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.  Ro 8:5 ESV+

*Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 1Jn 4:15 NKJV+

When the Spirit lives with our heart, He will continually give different gifts to all believers. Spiritual gifts to our soul and spirit; physical gifts to our mind and body, which we can use to glorify our God, do the work He has planned for us to do on earth. And receive the fruits of the Spirit while we are doing them; including love, joy, peace, and faithfulness within our hearts, within our minds. Knowing we are also laying away spiritual blessings in Heaven above.

*while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. Heb 2:4 ESV+

*But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Gal 5:22 NKJV+

*"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt 6:19-21 NASB+

When our mind fails us

If we had the Spirit in our hearts before our physical minds fail us, due to injury, mental illness, old age dementia, or any other reason our minds no longer function properly. The Holy Spirit will help our spirit to keep praising our God, keeping us His children; even though our mind may be thinking or saying evil things; and our physical body may be doing evil things.

*Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Ro 8:26-27 E

7. How our physical being comes into the Kingdom of God

All children of God whether living on earth, or those who have physically died and are spiritually living in Heaven; are heirs of God. We will be given holy, eternal, glorified bodies like Jesus has; when He returns for us. And we no longer will marry, for there is no reason for us to reproduce. We will all be brothers and sisters in the family of God.

*The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. Ro 8:16-17 NASB+

*who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. Phil 3:21 NKJV+

*At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. Mt 22:30 NIV+

Our Lord Jesus will come down to the clouds over earth, bringing the spiritual beings of all of our brothers and sisters in Heaven with Him. Their dead physical bodies will be raised up from the dead, as glorified bodies, which are holy, eternal, and imperishable; and then their spiritual beings from Heaven will put within their glorified bodies; making them one eternal unit forever. Then all children of God, who are physically still alive on earth, will be changed as we are caught up in the clouds to meet our Lord. We will have our physical body changed into a glorified, eternal, imperishable body in which our eternal spiritual being will live in forever. And all this will happen in a moment; in the twinkling of an eye.

*For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 1Thess 4:16 ESV+

*Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 1Thess 4:17 NKJV+

*in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 1Co 15:52 ESV

We were very brief about the end times, what will happen before Jesus will return and after He returns. You can read more about this in God’s 7 Kingdoms;  F. G. H. I. J. - K.

We would like to leave you with these thoughts, best expressed in the verses below.

*And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:7 NIV+

*teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matt 28:20 ESV+
