++ Helping All ++
Jesus wants us to do unto others as we would
desire to be treated in the same situation. This connotates a picture in one’s
mind about giving back some of our over abundance of material gifts to those
less fortunate. This we should gladly do, but physical needs are secondary to
spiritual needs, the need to help all know about the love of Jesus Christ.
Christians have been given the greatest treasure the world will ever know,
eternal life in Heaven through the grace of Jesus Christ. Jesus has commanded
us out of love to share this gift with all people. If we merely look around our
daily lives there are so many needing spiritual help, needing Christ’s love.
Friends, congregation members, fellow workers, those in the hospital, in jail,
children needing homes or guidance, struggling single parents, those with
mental or physical problems, many who have broken down over the stress of life,
and those who have had a terrible occurrence happen to them. The world is full
of people who do not know Jesus Christ, who are not one with our Lord.
Christians must reach out to all people, trusting the Holy Spirit to fill even
the vilest heart with the love of our Savior.
Christians should never hide God’s love, but let
it show through their lives for all to see.
All who believe in Jesus Christ are able to tell others how Christ has
changed our lives. Anyone who believes our Lord has the power to move mountains
and change the tide of the seas, has the faith to know that the Holy Spirit
will give us the courage to tell others about Jesus Christ, that He will put
words on our tongues that open hearts to the knowledge of our Savior. Through
Christian love we can quietly tell a hurt soul that Jesus is there for them no
matter what the circumstance. We can radiate hope in an encouraging smile to
those overwhelmed by worldly concerns, ensuring the despondent that Jesus will
help them as He has helped us. We can extend faith in a warm hug, letting the
troubled know Christ has His arms wrapped all around us, will never leave us,
that with the Lord’s help anything this world throws at us can be overcome.
We will all play different roles in bringing the
gospel to all people. But always remember there is no inconsequential role,
that if every believer brought only one person to the Lord the number in Christ
would double. That if each believer was able to bring one to the Lord each year
the pyramiding numbers would be staggering. And most importantly our Master’s
plan for you may be to merely reach that special individual that no one else
can seem to touch. We must also support those who bring the message of Christ,
both financially and with any other assistance we have to offer. These include
small local congregations or groups as well as larger congregations or
endeavors that are capable of providing missionary work in all nations. Never
forgetting to pray daily for all those who are having their faith tested, for
all who still are not one with our Lord, for all Christian ministry and missionary
work, and finally to strengthen our faith so we may humbly tell others about
our great God.
Jesus would also have us love our neighbor as
ourselves by providing material assistance to those less fortunate. If we just
look around us there are so many that need a helping hand to get started, to
sustain them when troubles, infirmities, and age touches their lives. There is
an even greater need in so many third world countries. If you were watching
your child starve to death, your grandchild die of a preventable disease, your
wife die of thirst, would you not hope, even expect a Christian whose cup was
overflowing to help you out of love for our Savior? One less dinner out will
feed starving children for a month, one less video or computer game will
inoculate many of our young brothers and sisters who are less fortunate, a
little less fancy house or car will drill wells to quench the thirst of those
without water. A little less lavish vacation can provide animals and seed to
make other communities self-sustaining. Helping others through Christian love
is expected of us by our Lord, is what our Christian lives are all about, and
will bring rich blessings from a loving Savior.
We should give to Christian groups, ministries,
and mission outreach programs that bring the love of Jesus Christ to all, who
use our gifts wisely. The good news of the gospel should be told in every
endeavor undertaken, whenever possible when we assist the needy locally,
nationally, and internationally. We must make sure all contributions are spent
for what they were designated for. All Christian groups should provide an
accounting of what was received, how it is spent, and have their books audited
annually. We should give to those who use 90% of their gifts to fund their
programs, while keeping overhead costs to 10%. We should also make sure CEO or
other salaries are not excessive.
